Angola come back against Algeria to set up Futsal AFCON final rematch with Morocco

Angola were 2-0 down to Algeria and won 3-2 in the Futsal AFCON semi-finals. In Wednesday's final in Rabat they face Morocco, who thrashed Egypt 6-0, in a rematch of the 2024 final.

Angola are in the Futsal AFCON final for the second edition in a row. On Monday, at the Moulay Abdellah Sports Hall in Rabat, the Palancas Negras trailed Algeria 2-0 and won 3-2. In Wednesday's final they face Morocco, who beat Egypt 6-0. It is a repeat of the 2024 final, won by the Moroccans.

Angola's comeback

Algeria, playing in the tournament for the first time, led 2-0 at half-time. Mathieu Hammad scored from a direct free kick after 9 minutes and Ait Hamadouche added the second in the 19th.

Angola responded in the second half. Aderito Santos pulled one back in the 29th minute and Hornes Santo equalised in the 35th. Two minutes from time, Francisco Gabriel "Chico" scored the winner. Right at the final whistle, Algeria's Amar Bessa was sent off for a foul on João Cambangula.

Hornes Santo explained the comeback: «We never give up. We always believe. The game only finishes when the clock reaches zero». On the final, he added: «I'm here to become a champion. I'm not here to visit Morocco, I'm here to compete».

For Algeria, Ait Hamadouche pointed to a lack of experience: «I think we lacked experience. Perhaps we could have done better, but overall, we still had a good tournament».

Morocco leave no doubt

In the other semi-final, the hosts settled the game in the first half. Bilal Bakkali opened the scoring after 9 minutes and Ismail Amazal scored in the 10th and 15th. In the second half, Bakkali added his second in the 22nd minute and Soufian Charraoui completed the 6-0 with goals in the 31st and 38th.

Morocco are in their fourth consecutive final and chasing a fourth straight title, after 2016, 2020 and 2024. Charraoui, who plays in the Netherlands, nearly missed the tournament because of a foot injury that kept him out for three months, and was only called up the day before it started. On the final, he said: «Our mindset is to win the cup here».
