Portugal beat Romania 6-1 in Targu Mures and took six points in the 2nd round of Group 7 of the World Cup 2028 qualifiers. After the match, Jorge Braz, Afonso Jesus and Tomás Paçó talked about a performance in which set pieces made the difference.
The coach: process before result
Braz highlighted the preparation of the game and the second half: "we had a brutal personality". About the first half, he admitted there was not as much fluidity. For the national coach, the focus remains on the process that leads to winning: "Winning is what we want, but the focus is on the process that leads us to win".
Afonso: set pieces as a weapon
Afonso Jesus stressed the work done on set-piece situations, which produced three or four goals. He said the squad "worked hard" for that and that the players who take them have the quality to repeat it.
Paçó: the mission is accomplished
Tomás Paçó summed up the game: "Two games, two wins, I think the mission is accomplished". He also highlighted the pace the team imposed, which did not give in to the Romanian atmosphere.
