Morocco close group stage with 17 goals scored and none conceded; Angola and Egypt decide Group B leadership today

The Futsal AFCON 2026 enters the final day of the group stage this Saturday with almost everything settled, but with one heavyweight clash still to be resolved. Egypt and Angola, already through to the semi-finals, meet today in Rabat to decide first place in Group B and, with it, the pairing for the next round.

In Group A, the story was closed on Friday: Morocco finished with three wins in three games, 17 goals scored and none conceded, while debutants Algeria made history by securing a place in the semi-finals.

Morocco advance with champion’s numbers

The reigning African champions once again showed the gap they have opened over much of the continental competition.

After the 4-0 against Algeria and the 7-0 against Zambia, Morocco closed Group A with another emphatic win: 6-0 against Libya.

Soufiane El Mesrar was the standout of the match, with a hat-trick. Othmane Elidrissi scored twice and Bilal Bakkali completed the scoreline.

Hicham Dguig’s side thus ended the first phase with an impressive record:

3 games, 3 wins, 17 goals scored and 0 conceded.

More than the maximum points haul, the defensive figure is particularly revealing. Morocco reach the semi-finals without having conceded a single goal in 120 minutes of competition.

The goal remains clear: to win a fourth consecutive African title, after the triumphs of 2016, 2020 and 2024.

Algeria make history on debut

The big surprise of Group A came from the other match.

In their first-ever appearance at a Futsal AFCON, Algeria beat Zambia 7-4 and secured second place in the group and a historic place in the semi-finals.

The Algerians came out with enormous intensity and built a 4-0 lead, with goals from Ait Hamadouche, Moussa Haddad and two from Walid Betterki.

Zambia still responded, but Betterki completed his hat-trick and Mathieu Hammad scored twice to confirm qualification.

It is a particularly significant run for a side that began the tournament with a 4-0 defeat to Morocco, recovered from 0-2 down to draw 2-2 with Libya and finished the group stage with the first win in its history in the competition, in precisely the game that decided access to the semi-finals.

Angola and Egypt: more than first place is at stake today

In Group B, Egypt and Angola arrive at the head-to-head with six points, the result of two wins in two games.

Egypt started with an 8-0 against Tanzania and then beat Mozambique 4-0. Angola responded with a 5-1 against Mozambique and a 6-0 against Tanzania.

In other words, both sides arrive at the final showdown with very strong numbers:

Egypt: 12 goals scored, 0 conceded
Angola: 11 goals scored, 1 conceded

Even more important is what is at stake in the semi-final pairings.

The CAF confirms that the Group B winner will face Algeria, runners-up in Group A.

The runner-up will face Morocco, who have just completed a perfect group stage.

That adds a very clear tactical and competitive dimension to the match: finishing first means avoiding, in the semi-finals, the hosts and three-time African champions.

Angola want to confirm their growth

For Angola, the match also represents another test of the progress shown in recent years.

The Palancas Negras finished third in 2020 and reached the final in 2024, where they lost, precisely, to Morocco.

Now they are once again among the last four and are looking to reach the decisive stage as group winners.

The Angolan side has shown attacking efficiency, an ability to accelerate after winning the ball back and several finishing options. João Cambangula was the star of the second matchday, scoring four goals in the 6-0 win over Tanzania.

On the other side will be an Egypt trying to recover the competition’s historic status. The Pharaohs won the first three editions of the Futsal AFCON, in 1996, 2000 and 2004, and are now seeking a fourth title.

Mozambique and Tanzania say their goodbyes

The other Group B match pits Mozambique and Tanzania against each other.

Both sides lost their first two games and can no longer reach the semi-finals. The match will therefore serve to close their participation in the competition and to contest third place in the group.

For Tanzania, who are making their debut at this edition of the Futsal AFCON, it will also be the last chance to look for their first points at a continental final tournament.

The semi-finals begin to take shape

The picture is practically complete.

Group A
1st Morocco - qualified
2nd Algeria - qualified

Group B
Egypt - qualified
Angola - qualified

All that remains is to determine the order of the top two places.

Whoever wins Egypt-Angola will face Algeria. The runner-up will face Morocco.

The group stage thus reaches its final chapter with a match that could change the road to the final quite a lot.

Morocco have already shown the strength of champions. Algeria have already made history. Now Angola and Egypt decide who enters the semi-finals through the front door of first place.
